Spruce Tree House is the only cliff dwelling that may be toured without a ranger.
In the lower right you can see the top of a ladder that allows access into a
reconstructed kiva, but be sure to watch your head as you climb out!
The slabs of sandstone leaning against the wall were used to cover the doorways during
cold weather. Balconies would have been constructed on the protruding vigas (timbers),
which also served to support the floors of the upper story rooms.
