The entire area is in sight of Sleeping Ute Mountain, which legend holds was a great warrior
in a fight against the evil enemies of the people. During the battle, his mighty
footsteps formed the land into mountains and valleys. He was injured, so he lay down to rest and
fell into a deep sleep. The blood from his wound turned into the living waters, and rain clouds
slip out of his pockets. He changes his blankets for the four seasons. Light green in spring,
dark green for summer, yellow and red in fall, and white in winter. He is also expected to
rise again to help the Utes fight their enemies.
