•Johnson Canyon Road intersects US 89 about six miles east of Kanab and stretches about 25 miles north until the pavement ends and the road splits west to the town of Glendale and east to the Skutumpah Road, a Scenic Backway road to Cannonville and Kodachrome State Park (weather permitting and with the proper high clearance vehicle). We drove until the pavement ended. On our return, we pulled off a dirt road for a short hike in the area of Dairy Canyon. (It was a hot afternoon as Lucy and Bella will contend; we didn’t realize Lucy had such a long tongue!)
A bit further down the road, we stopped to take pictures of the remains of a movie/TV set near the Johnson Canyon Ranch. We believe that many of the episodes of “Gunsmoke” were filmed here. One of those tumbledown buildings in the photo used to be the Long Branch Saloon.
