Craters of the Moon National Monument
	The Great Rift, a 62-mile long fissure in the Earth’s crust, is the source of the lava in this area. Flows frequently surged to the surface over thousands of years, but this very course black lava is from the most recent eruptions, which occurred only just over 2000 years ago.
