The holes in the walls above the cave doors are viga holes that were made to support the ends of roof beams. These holes indicate that there were once multi-storied structures here.

Another mile or so up Frijoles Canyon is Ceremonial Cave. To reach it I climbed
four steep ladders for an ascent of 140 feet.
