UPPER ANTELOPE CANYON

Tour of Antelope Canyon
We knew that this was what most people wanted to visit when we drove up to the entrance and saw the line-up of cars, vans, and trucks—and this was the prime time to visit: when the sun was overhead and a ray of sunlight shone through an opening in the top of the canyon. “The Beam,” as they call it, does not last very long and we were urged to get into place for the few minutes the experience lasted. Of course, there were other groups passing through at the same time we were, but Darren made sure we did not feel rushed or a sense of urgency. Ellie, the German girl with us, must have taken 500 photos during the hour and a half visit! We took nearly 100, which for us is huge! (Aren’t we grateful the digital camera was invented?)

We also got a rare opportunity to take a photo with no people in the picture. The ghost-like image in the light is caused by the dust of movement through the canyon just as the light was breaking through the top of the canyon.
