In the early 1900’s, the Ochre Beds were developed as a source of pigment for commercial paint. The clays were mined and hauled to Calgary. Thankfully, the plundering of this area did not last long, but it is now also stained by the hands of man, with trenches dug in the lower beds and old rusted equipment laying around.
