Emerald Lake

The absolutely gorgeous Emerald Lake from near the lodge, another built by the CPR. I hiked all the way around the lake, and enjoyed wonderful vistas along with varied micro-climates. The west (dry) side of the lake offers a gravel trail through lodgepole pine. At the north end of the lake, you cross the very sparsely vegetated alluvial fan left by the retreating glacier. The east (wet) side is shaded by the very close mountains, and offers a sometimes muddy path through a damp and lush forest of cedar and ferns.
