Hovenweep National Monument
Hovenweep National Monument Here you can better see the foundation the Square Tower was built on. Behind, on the rim of the canyon is Hovenweep House. It was once at the center of a larger group of buildings. The Ancestral Puebloan people who inhabited this site year–round from about 900 to 1300 were principally farmers who worked the mesa tops that surround the canyons near which they lived. The population of this canyon community was in the neighborhood of 200-300.
