Capitol Reef National Park
Capitol Reef National Park This is Capitol Dome, one of many such domes that reminded early settlers of rotundas of capitol buildings, and from which the park takes that part of its name. Reef refers to the 100-mile long geologic formation called the Waterpocket Fold, which is the backbone of the park. It is comprised of nearly impassible cliffs and ridges, reminiscent of an ocean reef preventing passage.
